In Chapter 3 we step into a modern apartment that sits on a fault line of history. The casket company is next door. The old penitentiary wall once ran along this very street. The river is just behind it. It looks new and calm, but the ground remembers.

Before we go upstairs, Scott does a psychic walkthrough. He notes a wooden circle that feels religious. A flower painting. A young man from the 1950s or 60s who may have taken his own life. He rides the elevator. He feels tied to a woman. He feels possessive.

Inside the unit we find the wooden circle with Mary. We find the flower artwork. The air shifts. Breathing gets tight. Energy moves in a path through the apartment. Calm to the left. A wall of pressure to the right. It should feel restful. It does not.

We learn the building was a warehouse before these homes were built. That matters. People worked here daily long before anyone lived here. Add the prison footprint, the limestone, and the river. It is a perfect mix for activity.

We check EMF to separate environmental influence from the paranormal. Most rooms read zero. Then we cross a doorway and the meter jumps. A steady 30 in one slice of wall. That is high. It explains why the homeowner might feel watched or anxious in that spot. It could even feed whatever else is in here. This is why we test. Not every chill is a ghost. Not every ghost needs a meter.

Then the apartment shows its teeth.

A formless black mass gathers in the hall. No face. No gender. A shadow with reaching edges. The box turns hostile.

“Death.”
“Be quiet.”
“Pain.”
“Beneath.”
“My life.”
“Do you want me.”

It crowds Dalen. It tries the classic moves. Chest pressure. Nausea. Stabbing pain in the ribs. Fear. We have seen this before. Elemental energy. Old. Territorial. It claims space and enjoys the suffering that follows.

We switch from collecting to clearing.

First we open a door for the good ones and invite them forward. Scott guides a simple meditation anyone can use at home. Focus, intention, permission. One gentle presence gives a kiss of thanks as she leaves. The room softens.

Then we escort the negative out. In our heads we walk it to the threshold. Two bouncers on a job. We push it through, close the door, lock the knob, set the deadbolt. We call in protection and fill the space with light and steady ground. The tension drops. The sharp pain fades.

By the end, the apartment feels lighter. The homeowner is not alone in this. The work matters. But the land is layered. We confirm later that this area was once Native ground and that a documented story tells of a woman fleeing to the river with her child during a violent clash. She did not make it. That is a different century speaking, but it spoke to us in Chapter 2 and again here.

We cannot cleanse every story tied to this place in a day. We can help the people standing in front of us. We can listen to the ones asking for help. And we can keep going.
